Nancy Nersessian, investigadora nomeada para o Prémio Fernando Gil 2010, tem efectuado investigação sobre os mecanismos «cognitivos e culturais» subjacentes à inovação científica. Como tenho trabalhado a partir de um quadro sociológico pragmático e me interessam os problemas colocados pelos investigadores da «cognição distribuída», resolvi deixar aqui uma citação desta autora:

«(...) The complex problem-solving practices of research in science and engineering require that science studies researchers understand and analyze them as forming and being enacted within cognitive-cultural systems. These systems comprise humans, artifacts, and procedures, ranging from techical to mentoring. A cognitive-cultural system is not a fixed entity, and thus should not be reified.»
